If you’ve ever wondered “What can I expect from a professional chemical peel?” you’re not alone! We answer countless questions regarding our professional chemical peels and treatments. Since glo therapeutics offers a wide range of advanced peel treatments designed to target skin concerns including fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation and dull skin, the answers to these questions vary. Our peels range from mild to aggressive and the results can be truly stunning. For a closer look at one of our newest peels, the Retinol + C Exfoliant, check out the Q&A and photo diary from Danelle below. Danelle is a licensed esthetician and makeup artist at French Pharmacie in Indianapolis and was kind enough to share her experience with the Retinol + C Exfoliant through a daily peel diary. This treatment is great for those looking to brighten dull skin and improve skin’s texture. You will see sloughing typically 2-3 days after this peel is administered so we recommend scheduling the treatment at least 2 weeks before an event.
How would you describe the condition of your skin before the peel?
Danelle: I’ve been an esthetician for 8 years, so I’m meticulous about my skincare routine and my skin is in good condition. It’s usually normal to dry and I don’t typically break out. My skin tone is fair so I’m religious about using sunscreen and have been for years therefore I don’t have much sun damage. I am in my mid 30’s now so I have started to notice some fine lines creeping up.
What does your current skincare routine look like?
Danelle: Since my skin is normal to dry, I use Hydrating Gel Cleanser in the AM & PM. In the mornings I use 15% Vitamin C Serum & Oil Free SPF 40+. My evening routine includes applying Super Serum, Cyto-luxe Eye Cream and Conditioning Hydration Cream.
What goals were you looking to achieve after the peel?
Danelle: I ordered the Retinol + C Exfoliant from the spa I work at and, as with any new product, I wanted to try it out on myself before using it on my clients. I honestly didn’t have any expectations going into the peel.
Was this your first peel?
Danelle: No. I typically do a Modified Jessner once or twice a year and Lactic 15% peels approximately every 3 months.
What was your day to day experience following the Retinol + C Exfoliant treatment?
Day 1: My skin was just slightly pink after applying the peel. Since the product stays on the skin it did feel a little greasy for awhile. I had no discomfort during the application of the peel or later that day. Following the protocol, I did not put anything else on my face and did not wash my face until the next morning.
Day 2: My skin felt tight (in a good way) and it was still slightly pink, but I had no discomfort this day. I washed my face & used my sunscreen in the morning, but I used no other products this day.
Day 3: The flaking started. For me it began around my chin area. It was still a little pink, but it was not uncomfortable. I washed my face and put on my SPF in the morning. I did apply a little makeup this day (
Pressed Base) and then cleansed my face at night.
Day 4: My face really began to peel. It was still slightly pink underneath all the flaking. I gently rinsed my face (& fought the urge to pick at it all day). When I put on my sunscreen there was an initial stinging sensation, but that quickly went away and my skin felt better afterwards. I did not attempt to put on makeup this day but I did apply
Oil Free Moisturizer off and on throughout the day. Again, I’d have an initial stinging sensation that would quickly fade. At night I washed my face and then just let it be.
Day 5 & 6: These two days were pretty much the same. There was less peeling than day 4, but it was still noticeably flaky. The redness began fading. Both days I washed my face, put on SPF & let it go the rest of the day.
Day 7: When I woke up the majority of the flaking was gone. I had no redness. I could tell a huge difference in the overall brightness of my skin. It was firmer & softer. The appearance of my pores had diminished. I was highly impressed with the results. I washed my face and put on sunscreen. At this point I could’ve put on makeup, but my skin felt so good I didn’t want to!
What was the condition of your skin after the peel?
Danelle: My skin felt softer, firmer, brighter and the appearance of my pores has diminished.
Did the peeling process interfere with your day to day life?
Since I work as an esthetician I would say no. My clients were fascinated and really enjoyed that I let them see the process of the peel. My husband just thought it was funny but he’s also accustomed this kind of thing. I didn’t notice if anyone was giving me crazy looks at the grocery store or anything!
Would you recommend this peel to a friend?
Danelle: Yes, I have recommended it to several friends and clients. I had clients that were so excited when they saw me peeling they asked to have it done right then & there. They didn’t even want to wait to see my results!
Are you happy with the results?
Danelle: Yes, I am very happy and impressed with the results of this peel. I honestly wasn’t expecting the results I achieved since I do peels on a regular basis and have a good at home routine. I really did notice a visible difference in the appearance of my skin. I know if I got these kinds of results, my clients are really going to be happy with their results as well. I will definitely be using this on myself again and I will be using it a lot in my treatment room.
