With so much information available, it's hard to know what's true and what's false when it comes to best practices for your skin. And it doesn't help that almost everyone has their own opinion. Here at Glo Skin Beauty, we want to make sure you have the best information to make informed decisions about your own skincare routine, so we've debunked the top 5 skincare myths.
Fact: This is one of the oldest skincare myths around but the truth of the matter is, the right oils can be great for any skin type, even acne-prone and oily! Confused? We’ll explain: like attracts like, meaning oils attract oil. This is a good thing because it means your oily skin will see reduced shine, without a loss of hydration. Not to mention, not all oils are created equal. Take Jojoba Oil, for example, did you know this is technically not an oil? Rather, it’s a mixture of liquid wax esters, which is why you’ll find it in our best-selling Oil Free Moisturizer.
Fact: Many masks can be used overnight! For instance, Restorative Mask is an ultra-hydrating and nourishing mask, which can be applied before bed and worn overnight. Think of it like the extra blanket you use in the winter. Or Soothing Gel Mask, which we generally promote more in the Summer as a cure to redness and irritation, but is also great as an extra gentle Winter sleeping option. Just make sure to apply a thin layer so it doesn’t get on your pillow!
Fact: It may feel that way, but it’s not. With the right set of products, change can happen. But trust us when we say reversing signs of hyperpigmentation takes time. Like, a lot of time. So don’t give up hope and ditch your whole routine if you’re not seeing results. Use products formulated to address dark spots, like Triple Action Serum, Hydra Radiance Moisturizer and Daily Polishing Cleanser. And if you’re working on reversing hyperpigmentation and NOT using a sunscreen, know you’re not doing yourself any favors.
Fact: They don’t have to. Long ago, before anyone knew any better, toners were used to strip the skin of any and all oil and generally contained high percentages of alcohol. In the modern world, toners and mists are looked at more as refreshers that offer both purifying and hydrating benefits. Use your mist after washing your face to prep your skin to better receive serums, in between layers of makeup to set your look, or throughout the day as a burst of hydration, or as we like to say, a drink of water for your skin. Don’t be afraid to mist multiple times per day; because of their hydrating and nourishing ingredients, you can’t over do it and you definitely won’t dry out your skin!
Fact: They are only bad for the environment if they contain Polyethylene Beads (PE) and no Glo Skin Beauty products contain these harmful microbeads! Traditionally, Polyethylene Beads were used in a variety of cosmetic formulas to gently smooth the skin’s surface. But because they are not biodegradable, they can build up in nature, causing harm to wildlife. Instead, we use environmentally-friendly options such as Jojoba Beads and Damascus Earth to give clients responsible, mechanical exfoliation options.
